Leicester City have parted ways with manager Steve Cooper after just five months in charge at the King Power Stadium.
The decision follows a 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Saturday, which left the club in 16th place in the Premier League, having secured only 10 points from their first 12 games.
A statement released by the club on Sunday confirmed Cooper’s dismissal, stating: “Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his role as first team manager with immediate effect.
Assistant manager Alan Tate and first team coach Steve Rands have also left the club. We thank them for their contributions and wish them all the best in the future.”
First team coach Ben Dawson will take charge of training, with support from coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, as the club begins the search for a new manager, aiming to complete the process as soon as possible.
Cooper, 44, took over in the summer, replacing Enzo Maresca after the Italian led Leicester back to the Premier League as Championship champions.
Before joining Leicester, Cooper had been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest, where he had spent two years.
Leicester City.
Prior to that, he famously guided England’s Under-17s to the 2017 World Cup title and later managed Swansea City, leading them to the Championship play-off final in 2021, where they were defeated by Brentford.
Cooper’s dismissal marks the second managerial change in the Premier League this season, following Manchester United’s decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag last month.
Leicester, just two points above the relegation zone, will return to action next Saturday with an away fixture at Brentford.
