City lawyer Danstan Omari has vowed to take legal action against Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o over a joke he made about the Kisii community that was deemed offensive.

Jalang’o sensationally and jokingly claimed to have seen witches meeting at night in Marani, Kisii county, a statement that has landed him in hot soup.

In a statement, Omari accused the witty lawmaker of ethnic profiling and hate speech, arguing his use of the term “wachawi” perpetuated unfounded stereotypes, discrimination and incitement against the Kisii community.

“The use of the term 'wachawi' about the Kisii community based on unfounded assumptions constitutes ethnic profiling and discrimination in violation of national and international human rights standards,” said Omari.

Consequently, Omari said he will take legal action against Jalang’o.

The lawyer also asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate him and take appropriate action against the lawmaker.
