The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has issued a strong statement condemning impunity and rights violations by state institutions, particularly the National Police Service.

As the year draws to a close, LSK has highlighted the deteriorating state of governance and called for urgent reforms within the Judiciary.

In their statement, LSK President Faith Odhiambo and Council members criticized the Executive for undermining constitutional principles and expressed concern over the unchecked actions of law enforcement agencies.

The society condemned the abduction of two Kenyans, Billy Mwangi and Peter Muteti, by police on December 21, 2024.

They demanded the victims’ immediate release or lawful presentation in court, citing violations of Article 49 of the Constitution, which guarantees the rights of arrested persons.

“The National Police Service, under the leadership of the Inspector General, continues to perpetrate heinous acts against the people of Kenya, violating human rights with impunity,” they stated.

The LSK also turned its attention to the Judiciary, accusing it of being compromised by corruption and self-preservation. The society called for an “elaborate, objective, and independent reevaluation” of judicial officers, urging Kenyans to report any evidence of misconduct or corruption among judges, magistrates, and staff.”

2025 will be a year of transformation in the administration of justice. We must confront judicial misconduct, impunity, and corruption head-on,” the council stated, announcing plans to establish offices in January for collecting complaints and evidence from the public.

The LSK invited members of the public to submit evidence of judicial corruption to their dedicated email addresses, radicalsurgery@lsk.or.kepresident@lsk.or.ke

emphasizing the need for collective action in reclaiming the Judiciary as a “repository of justice for all.”

As the festive season approaches, the society acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed optimism for meaningful change in the coming year.
