Carolyne DeMathew, Tyrese’s mother and the widow of the iconic Kikuyu musician, shared her pride and joy on Facebook, congratulating her son on his outstanding performance. “He is called the God of widows. Congratulations, my Tyrese. Will you also say I bribed my way through this one?” she wrote, with a playful tone that resonated with her followers.
This milestone comes just a few months after Carolyne made headlines by picking up Tyrese from his school, Thika High School, in a luxurious limousine following his KCSE exams in November 2024. The car, adorned with festive balloons and a banner reading “Congratulations, my Tyrese,” sparked a wave of admiration online. Carolyne referred to her son’s academic achievement as a significant personal victory, writing, “Today I am the happiest woman on this planet Earth. Have you seen what the Lord has done? This is what I prayed for.”
John DeMathew, known for his soulful Benga music, passed away tragically in 2019 in a road accident along the Thika Superhighway. His widow, Carolyne, is his second wife, and the couple’s son, Tyrese, has now grown into a young man with a promising future ahead.
Carolyne’s heartfelt post and the grand celebration of her son’s success have captured the hearts of many.
