Kwale Stadium Ready to Host Mashujaa Day Celebrations for the First Time

The Kwale County Stadium is fully prepared for the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024, according to Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Raymond Omollo.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, PS Omollo confirmed that all arrangements are in place for the national event, which will be hosted in Kwale for the first time.

“Kwale Stadium is ready to host the nation for the Mashujaa Day celebrations on Sunday, October 20. This year, we honor the courage of our past heroes while celebrating today’s champions. From the struggles of the past, a new generation is rising, empowered by the government’s Bottom-Up vision,” Omollo stated.

The 10,000-seat stadium is equipped with an athletics track, football pitch, basketball court, and facilities for other sports.

This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations will focus on the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP), a flagship initiative aimed at increasing homeownership opportunities for Kenyans. “At the heart of these celebrations is the Affordable Housing Program, a transformative initiative enabling Kenyans to become homeowners and heroes in their own right,” Omollo added.

During an earlier visit on October 8, 2024, Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen emphasized that the new stadium would not only serve Kwale but also boost the region’s profile as a hub for sports tourism and major competitions.

The event is expected to draw many visitors to Kwale, with Governor Fatuma Achani noting a rise in hotel bookings ahead of the celebration. “Kwale is ready, and the team has worked hard to make this a success. We have also completed the dress rehearsal by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and everything is in place,” PS Omollo assured.
