A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a suspected car break-in syndicate targeting motorists at parking yards across Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
The suspect, identified as Malcolm Okello, was arrested on August 3, 2026, following an attempted escape from Sameer Business Park after a vehicle was broken into.
According to police, a motorist returned to her parked car and discovered that a laptop, tablet and charger had been stolen. Security guards at the business park became suspicious of a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number KDT 122Q, parked nearby with two occupants.
When the guards attempted to search the vehicle, the driver sped toward the exit while the second suspect fled on foot. The vehicle was intercepted at the park’s gate, leading to Okello’s arrest.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the stolen laptop and charger, a motor vehicle number plate KDG 453W, wireless door jammers and a metallic door breaker. Investigators also established that the vehicle was fitted with fake registration plates and is believed to be linked to several similar car break-ins reported across Nairobi.
The suspect is being processed ahead of his arraignment, while detectives continue pursuing the second suspect who escaped. The recovered items and impounded vehicle are being held as exhibits.
