The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened the application portal for students seeking placement at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and various Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.
On Friday, January 24, KUCCPS announced that the application process is now live, giving students the opportunity to apply for their preferred colleges and courses. This marks a significant change in the placement process, as KUCCPS has introduced a phased application system. For the first time, students can begin applying specifically for KMTC and TVET colleges, which have intakes earlier in the year, starting in March.
The application portal will remain open for 21 days, closing on February 14, 2025. KUCCPS emphasized that this early phase will help students who wish to enroll in the March intake at these institutions to submit their applications on time.
In a statement, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome explained that the reason for the phased application process is due to the different intake schedules for various institutions. While universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) have intakes later in the year, KMTC and TVET colleges typically begin their academic sessions in January, March, and May. The phased process ensures that students can transition to these colleges promptly, without delays.
Dr. Wahome also clarified that students who sat their KCSE exams from the year 2000 to 2024 are eligible to apply for the current placement cycle. This is a great opportunity for Form Four leavers to pursue their desired courses without waiting for the later university intake.
After the February 14 deadline for KMTC and TVET applications, KUCCPS will announce additional application dates for degree programmes and Teacher Training Colleges.
Students interested in applying should ensure they meet the necessary requirements and submit their applications before the portal closes. Keep an eye out for further updates on the KUCCPS website for more information on upcoming application phases.
