The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is tapping into Kenyan missions abroad to enhance its diaspora tourism campaign, aiming to boost the number of visitors to the country.
The initiative, titled “Ziara Kenya: One Diaspora, One Tourist,” seeks to engage over 3 million Kenyans living overseas to promote their homeland through their networks in host countries.
This campaign is designed to increase tourism arrivals from the current figure of 1.9 million to a target of five million by 2027, solidifying Kenya’s reputation as a preferred travel destination.
In a recent meeting held at a Nairobi hotel, KTB gathered key departmental heads to discuss the initiative’s rollout.
KTB CEO June Chepkemei emphasized the vital role that Kenyan missions abroad will play in this effort, stating, “Kenya has 66 missions globally, which represent our country.
This existing infrastructure provides an ideal platform to position Kenya as the most attractive destination for international travelers.”
Chepkemei noted that the campaign will empower Kenyans living abroad to promote tourism within their social circles by offering incentives.
“”We will collaborate closely with our travel partners, encouraging them to create personalized travel packages and referral incentives to motivate Kenyans in the diaspora to engage with the campaigns,” Chepkemei added.
The board plans to collaborate with the travel industry to create personalized travel packages and referral incentives to encourage participation from the diaspora.
Eliphas Barine, Director General of Political and Diplomatic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed the Ministry’s support for KTB’s initiatives, highlighting the potential of Africa’s growing market. He pointed out that Kenyans in the diaspora can significantly contribute to attracting visitors to Kenya by showcasing the country’s rich culture, wildlife, and natural beauty.
Through this campaign, KTB aims to leverage the diaspora’s connections and enthusiasm for their homeland to enhance Kenya’s tourism landscape and promote its diverse offerings to a broader audience.
