President William Ruto was on a development tour of Baringo County today, Tuesday, October 28, where he commissioned several projects undertaken by his administration.
The president began the tour by inspecting the construction of the 100-kilometre Marigat–Muchongoi–Karandi–Ol Ngarua–Muhotetu–Junction C77 and Muhotetu–Sipili roads in Marigat.
The head of state was impressed by the progress of the project, noting that it is 60% done and once done, it will enable farmers to transport produce more efficiently, open new markets, and open up tourism to Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Kerio Valley, and other destinations.
The president then commissioned the Kasoyo – Kampi Samaki Road.
Still in Marigat, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 382-unit Marigat Affordable Housing Project. He said the project will elevate Marigat Town’s status as an emerging urban centre.
Still in efforts to enhance the town and ease to operations of local traders, President Ruto announced the construction of a KSh 200 million modern market in Marigat. The construction will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in six months.
The head of state further directed another 1,400 Affordable Housing units to be built in Kiboino.
He also announced that funds have already been released for the construction of Pabelo- Tot Road, TUKIO.co.ke noted that the construction of the road is already in progress.
Together with host leaders, President Ruto then moved to Kabarnet, where he announced the construction of Kabarnet Stadium. The head of state noted that KSh 900 million has already been set aside for the project, with the construction exercise set to begin in January 2026. KDF will oversee the construction, with the project expected to be completed by August 2026.
Further, to improve the economy of Kabarnet, President Ruto announced the construction of Kabarnet University, which will cost KSh 1 billion.
The construction is expected to begin this December, with a 1000-bed capacity student hostel.
While addressing roadside crowds in the town, the head of state announced KSh 1.4 billion had been set aside to connect 15,000 homesteads in Baringo County to electricity.
He also announced the setting up of a 5000-acre Special Economic Zone in Baringo South to create more jobs for the locals.
Further, the president promised to enhance security in the area while putting the bandits on notice to surrender their illegal firearms.
His warning to bandits was reiterated by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who accompanied him.
Murkomen revisited the head of state’s “Mambo ni Matatu” warning to law breakers, cautioning those disrupting security in the area that they might be living on borrowed time.
