KNUT’s Oyuu Announces Job Relief and Promotions

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has given hope to thousands of trained teachers who have spent years waiting for government jobs.

Speaking in Rongo on Sunday, Oyuu said President William Ruto’s administration has agreed to hire all long-waiting teachers through a special affirmative action plan developed with KNUT.

Oyuu said it was heartbreaking that some teachers are now 45 years old and still haven’t secured government employment despite being qualified.

He assured them that this will soon change, saying the union is working with the government to ensure such teachers are finally absorbed into the system.

The KNUT boss also shared good news on teacher promotions. He revealed that President Ruto has committed to increasing the promotions budget from Ksh 1 billion to Ksh 2 billion, a move he said will help thousands of teachers who have been stuck in the same job group for years finally move up.

Oyuu went on to commend the Kenya Kwanza government for what he described as an impressive recruitment record. He noted that the administration has hired 76,000 teachers in just three years and is planning to employ another 20,000 in January 2026.
