Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned parents, teachers, and candidates to be on the lookout for fake exam papers in circulation on social media with the national exams just a few days away.

In a press release on Friday, September 5, the council alerted that the materials in circulation are forged and do not originate from KNEC.

“Please be informed that these question papers being shared on social media are not from KNEC. Do NOT be misled! Be alert!” the council warned.

Some of the forged papers detected are purported KJSEA examinations in English, Mathematics (Grade 9 KJSEA-2025), Christian Religious Education (Code 908)-2025, and Kiswahili (Msimbo 902)-2025.

The warning comes just weeks to the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) that will be the final examination of the junior secondary cycle in October 2025.

KNEC warned the institutions and learners that all the examination details such as timetables and sample papers are available on its website only.

“In order to prepare the candidates for the new exam, KNEC uploaded sample papers for the inaugural KJSEA on 20th January 2025. They are available free of charge and outline the format that will be used in the October exams,” the statement detailed.

The council also informed that aspirants should also know about a new system of answering questions.

From this year, students will be required to shade their answers on Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets, a departure from the previous system where they used to draw lines.

“KNEC wishes to inform you that the design of the OMR answer sheets for KPSEA and KJSEA has been modified for 2025. The candidates will be expected to shade their responses,” the announcement read.

Parents, teachers, and candidates have been requested to report suspicious content and rely on official information only so as not to fall prey to misinformation during this crucial exam season.
