The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has started issuing transcripts early to students who recently finished their final exams, in a move meant to help them start applying for jobs without waiting for graduation.
About 13,000 students’ transcripts have already been released to those who took the January-February exams. For the graduates, this has been a blessing in disguise, having been delayed for years. For some, the delay was so severe that they were unable to apply for jobs in time.
However, things have been made a bit easier for the students. Instead of having to wait until the end of the year and the graduation ceremony to receive their certificates, the students can now apply for jobs using the new system. They will be able to apply for jobs within the country and even outside the country.
This was also pushed by the fact that the number of students seeking jobs immediately after the exams has been on the increase. According to Higher Education Loans Board CEO Kelly Oluoch, the change was pushed by the growing number of students looking for jobs soon after exams. He said the old system was slowing them down.
KMTC says it has also improved its systems, making it easier to prepare and release the documents across its campuses. The graduates can pick their documents from their respective departments using only their ID without being required to pay any extra charges.
This will not only ease the process for the students but will also be beneficial for the employers who will need the documents at their earliest when recruiting the students.
This year, over 22,000 students are expected to graduate, and the early release of the documents is likely to ease the process for them.
