President William Ruto, in his latest Cabinet reshuffle, named Kipchumba Murkomen as the new Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Taking to social media after the appointment, Murkomen thanked President Ruto for the elevation to the coveted docket.

Upon assuming office, he pledged to tirelessly work to support the president in delivering on his national security and administration agenda.

"I look forward to supporting the President in delivering on his national security and administration agenda. In keeping with my oath of office, I undertake serve with honour and dignity and to perform the functions of my office to the best of my ability," said Murkomen.

Murkomen will fill in the position left vacant following the elevation of Kithure Kindiki to the Office of the Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

He was previously serving as the Sports Cabinet Secretary. In the new changes, Trade Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has been re-assigned to the Sports Ministry to replace Murkomen.

The president has, in turn, nominated former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui to take over the Ministry of Trade pending the vetting and approval by the National Assembly.
