Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined major infrastructure and development investments planned for Murang’a County, including a Sh56 billion road construction programme targeting 1,265 kilometres.
Speaking during a public engagement meeting at Kigio Shopping Centre in Gatanga Constituency on Thursday, Kindiki said the road programme forms part of wider efforts to transform the county’s infrastructure and economy.
He said the Housing Fund is investing Sh27 billion in Murang’a to develop 26 fresh produce markets, nine affordable housing projects and eight student accommodation facilities.
Gatanga Constituency will benefit from markets in Ndunyu Chege, Gatunyu, Ithanga, Kaguku and Gatura. The constituency is also set to benefit from the Sh5.4 billion Kakuzi/Mitubiri Housing Project, which will deliver 2,000 homes.
Kindiki said Sh145 million has been allocated to provide 340 beds at Gatanga Technical and Vocational College, while Sh100 million will support facility upgrades at Kihumbuini School.
He added that last-mile electricity projects worth Sh1 billion are underway, targeting 13,000 additional households and public amenities.
On healthcare, Kindiki said 460,000 of Murang’a’s estimated one million residents have enrolled in the Universal Medical Insurance Scheme administered through the Social Health Authority.
He was joined by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and other leaders.
