The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) reported a notable increase in revenue collection for the just-ended fiscal year, totalling Ksh 2.407 trillion compared to Ksh 2.166 trillion in the 2022/23 financial year.

Additionally, KRA welcomed 1.2 million new taxpayers and registered eight million tax returns.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki commended this achievement, highlighting that KRA exceeded its target by 26 percent.

He emphasized that all Kenyans have a responsibility to pay taxes for the country’s development and welfare.

“This requires us to continuously innovate and adopt client-friendly revenue mobilization measures while ensuring prudent management of resources collected from taxpayers,” Kindiki stated.

He joined President William Ruto in celebrating Taxpayers Day 2024 at State House, Nairobi, where they also officially launched the 9th Corporate Plan and Application Programming Interface (API) Platform.

The 2023/24 fiscal year presented significant challenges for revenue collection, including the depreciation of the Kenyan Shilling against the US Dollar, rising bank lending rates, and international conflicts that disrupted supply chains.
