Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has lauded the significant progress in restoring security in Turkana County and the surrounding regions, attributing the improvements to the success of Operation Maliza Uhalifu.
Speaking during an interdenominational Sunday worship and thanksgiving service at Moi Gardens, Lodwar, Turkana County, Kindiki expressed gratitude to the multi-agency security teams for dismantling criminal networks responsible for banditry and livestock rustling.
“The security situation in Turkana County and the neighboring counties has considerably improved in the past two years since the commencement of Operation Maliza Uhalifu,” Kindiki stated. “We applaud the gallant frontline multi-agency security agencies that have pacified the North Rift Valley region and opened it up for economic transformation and development.”
The deputy president also acknowledged the crucial role of political, religious, and community leaders in fostering peace and promoting sustainable change in the region.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring security and stability, stating that multi-stakeholder peace-building programs have been established to prevent bandits and other armed criminals from regrouping.
Kindiki further highlighted Kenya’s economic recovery, citing positive indicators such as an improved exchange rate, reduced costs of essential commodities like food and fuel, lower interest rates, and stabilized inflation.
“Our country’s economy is on a positive trajectory after braving nearly two years of economic inactivity caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. We must remain hopeful and support the transformative government programs aimed at improving household incomes and creating jobs both locally and abroad,” he noted.
The event brought together key leaders, including Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, Deputy Governor John Erus, and Turkana MPs Cecilia Ngitit, Joseph Namuar, and Ekwom Nabuin, among others.
Cabinet Secretary for East African Community and Regional Development Beatrice Askul Moe, former Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro, and former Petroleum CS John Munyes were also in attendance.
