Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support grassroots traders including mama mboga, boda boda riders, and small-scale entrepreneurs as part of efforts to boost their businesses and improve livelihoods.
Speaking on Thursday during the Boda Boda and Mama Mboga Empowerment Forum held at Mawingu in Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County, the Deputy President said the government is rolling out comprehensive policy, legislative, and financial interventions to uplift these critical groups.
“We will continue to empower mama mboga, boda boda, small-scale traders, and other groups at the grassroots because boosting their efforts is key to improving their livelihoods,” Kindiki stated.
He emphasized that the empowerment of small-scale traders is a cornerstone of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), and dismissed criticism against the initiative, noting that every Kenyan deserves a chance to grow economically.

“For the small-scale traders, empowerment is important as it will go a long way in bolstering their businesses, aiding expansion, and improving returns,” he said.
Kindiki noted that the economy has begun to stabilize thanks to key policy measures implemented over the past two years, adding that the focus is now shifting to implementing projects and programs that directly benefit ordinary citizens.
“We have stabilized the economy, and now it’s time to work. We are working every day to uplift the lives of the people,” he added.
In Kipipiri, Kindiki revealed that the government is constructing modern markets in Mawingu and Wanjohi towns to provide clean and secure trading spaces for local traders. Additionally, he said the stalled Geta-Ndunyu Njeru road project has been revived and will be completed ahead of the next elections.
The Deputy President also addressed lingering land issues in Nyandarua, promising a government-led effort to resolve the matter of missing title deeds, particularly in colonial villages.
“We will find a solution to the pending title deeds issue for colonial villages in Nyandarua County because it is an issue we must solve as requested by residents,” he assured.
