Former Githunguri Member of Parliament Kago Wa Lydia has officially joined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), signaling the party’s continued efforts to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The announcement was made on Thursday after Gachagua hosted the former legislator at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri, where the two held political consultations.
According to Gachagua, Kago Wa Lydia informed him that residents of Githunguri Constituency had urged him to contest the parliamentary seat on a DCP ticket in the next General Election.

“This morning, at Wamunyoro Residence, I received Hon. Kago Wa Lydia, the former Member of Parliament for Githunguri Constituency, into the DCP party, the party of the moment and the future,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President said he had assured Kago Wa Lydia that the party would conduct free and fair nominations ahead of the elections and urged him to intensify grassroots mobilization by recruiting more members to the party.
“He has told me that the people of Githunguri have instructed him to vie for the seat as Member of Parliament under the DCP party. I have assured him of free and fair nominations and urged him to go on an overdrive in recruitment of members to the party,” Gachagua added.

The latest defection comes as Gachagua continues to use his Wamunyoro residence as a meeting point for political leaders and aspirants seeking to join the DCP, as he builds support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the recruitment of former elected leaders forms part of Gachagua’s broader strategy to establish DCP as a formidable political force, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, where the party is seeking to expand its influence.
Gachagua concluded his remarks by reiterating the party’s campaign slogan, declaring, “The Future is Green.”
