Renowned comedian turned activist Timothy Kimani alias Njugush has appeared to dismiss his fellow countryman Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Instead, Njugush backed Raila’s top competitor, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti, to clinch the seat in the vote slated for February 2025.
Taking to X, the comic asked Kenyans to pray for Mahamoud’s victory, insisting on the need for Africa to unite.
"Remember to pray for our sister country Djibouti to get the AUC . Asanteni. WE stand as ONE Africa . Africa ni yetu sote," said Njugush.
Njugush endorsing Mahamoud came as a surprise, as many Kenyans, led by President William Ruto are backing Raila ‘to bring it home’.
Ruto has been campaigning for Raila and recently stepped up his efforts by approaching all the African heads of state at once.
While in the USA, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei revealed that the president wrote letters to all the African presidents and heads of state asking them to rally behind Raila.
