Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has hinted at ditching former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s camp.
In not so long, Ngunjiri was among the leaders who spiritedly opposed Gachagua’s impeachment and even shed tears after he was deposed as President William Ruto’s chief assistant.
However, Ngunjiri’s latest political pronouncements indicate he might be aligning himself with President Ruto, whom he has viciously criticised.
Speaking at a university graduation ceremony in Eldoret on Saturday, December 21, the former MP asked the country to allow the president to serve his term undisturbed.
In a supposed jab hitting Gachagua, Ngunjiri said he was against the politics of regionalism and seclusion.
"I don't want these political fights, and that is why you have seen me keeping quiet for a while now. These politics of the mountain and other regions are of no importance; they only benefit a few people. I want us to respect our leaders because they were installed by God, and it is, therefore, not right to attack them," said Ngunjiri.
Ngunjiri further supported the president’s recent nomination of new Cabinet members, stating that it is every citizen’s right to serve in government regardless of their ethnic extractions.
The former lawmaker also backed the government’s new health insurance scheme, the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which Gachagua strongly opposed.
