Windsor Golf & Country Club professional Njoroge Kibugu has been crowned the Order of Merit champion of the inaugural Sunshine Development Tour (SDT) East Africa Swing after sealing a commanding victory at the season-ending Absa Invitational Series at Karen Country Club.

Kibugu produced a composed and clinical final-round performance, firing a six-under-par 64 to pull away from Rwanda’s Celestin Nsanzuwera, with whom he had started the day tied at eight-under-par.

His closing round featured seven birdies—at the sixth, ninth, 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th and 18th holes—against a lone bogey at the third, as he finished the tournament on an impressive 14-under-par 196.

The win secured Kibugu both the tournament title and the overall SDT East Africa Swing Order of Merit crown. He topped the final standings with 1,497 points, earned through four tournament victories and a series of consistent performances throughout the season. He also collected Ksh 400,000 from the event’s Ksh 2 million prize purse.

Nsanzuwera finished second on nine-under-par 201 after a spirited final-round challenge. He opened strongly with birdies on the first two holes but dropped shots at the fourth, fifth and 15th before closing with birdies at the 17th and 18th to card a one-under-par round.

His runner-up finish saw him end the season second on the Order of Merit with 1,317 points, having claimed two victories during the campaign.

Amateur Taimur Malik emerged as the leading amateur at Karen, posting an excellent final-round five-under-par 65 to claim third place on the leaderboard at eight-under-par 202. Mutahi Kibugu finished fourth on four-under-par 206, while Isaiah Otuke placed fifth on three-under-par 205.

Zimbabwe’s Visitor Mapwanya recorded the lowest round of the tournament, signing for a seven-under-par final round to finish tied on two-under-par 208 alongside Greg Snow and Mike Kisia.

In the final Order of Merit standings, Dismas Indiza placed third with 753 points, followed by amateur John Lejirma in fourth with 605 points and Greg Snow in fifth with 578 points.

The SDT East Africa Swing concludes its inaugural season having established a clear competitive pathway for professional and elite amateur golfers in the region, with top performers progressing to continental playoffs and Sunshine Tour qualification opportunities.

Attention now turns to the Big Easy Tour Playoff, scheduled for January 27–29, 2026, at Modderfontein Golf Club. The top 12 players on the combined SDT East Africa Swing and Big Easy Tour Order of Merit will earn direct playing cards on the Sunshine Tour.

Thereafter, the top 30 players from the SDT East Africa Swing and the top 30 from South Africa’s Big Easy Tour will contest the Big Easy Tour Finals in March 2026, where 12 places will be available for the Sunshine Tour Final Qualifying School as players chase additional Sunshine Tour cards.
