Kenya is making strides in addressing malnutrition through the Kenya Nutrition Action Plan (KNAP) 2023-2027, with stakeholders convening at a workshop to refine this essential framework.

The KNAP aligns with national priorities, including Universal Health Coverage, and demonstrates Kenya’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.

At the workshop, held on September 27, 2024, Veronica Kirogo, Head of the Division of Nutrition and Dietetics, emphasized the importance of a multisectoral approach, urging collaboration among health, agriculture, education, and social protection sectors to improve nutrition outcomes.

Discussions centered on tackling the triple burden of malnutrition—undernutrition, obesity, and rising non-communicable diseases—while prioritizing maternal and child nutrition, enhancing food systems, and building resilience against climate change’s effects on food security.

Key partners, including UN agencies and civil society organizations, participated in the workshop, focusing on scaling up interventions in vulnerable communities.

Kirogo called for active participation from all sectors to ensure successful implementation of the plan, highlighting the role of a well-nourished population in driving Kenya’s growth.
