Kenyans have taken to social media to express amazement and excitement after images and videos showing the final fireworks-inspired roof design of the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City emerged online, ahead of its expected completion in February 2026.

The stadium, which is being developed as part of the government’s Talanta Sports City project, quickly became a trending topic on platforms including X, Facebook and TikTok, with many users praising the bold architectural design and comparing it to iconic global sporting arenas.

“This looks like something straight out of Europe or the Middle East,” one X user wrote, while another commented, “If this is how Talanta Stadium will look, then Kenya is finally serious about world-class sports infrastructure.”

The fireworks-style roof, designed to light up dramatically during major events, drew particular admiration, with Kenyans noting that the stadium could become a major landmark for Nairobi and a symbol of the country’s growing ambitions in sports and entertainment. Several users also pointed out that the design would give Kenya an edge when bidding to host major continental and international tournaments.

However, alongside the praise, some social media users urged the government to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

“The design is impressive, but what matters most is delivery,” one post read, reflecting cautious optimism among the public.

The Raila Odinga International Stadium is a flagship facility under the Talanta Sports City programme, which aims to nurture sports talent, create jobs and position Kenya as a regional hub for major sporting and cultural events.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to host international football matches, athletics competitions, concerts and national celebrations.
