Kenyans have been encouraged to continue registering under the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme as the government intensifies efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and promote a healthier nation.

Speaking during the third graduation ceremony of John Charles Medical Training College at Ruai Family Hospital, Ministry of Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth revealed that approximately 2.1 million Kenyans have already been enrolled in the SHA scheme.

Dr. Amoth noted that both public and private hospitals across the country are currently offering affordable healthcare services under the new system, adding that the digital infrastructure supporting SHA is functioning smoothly without major technological issues.

“The progress we have made with SHA enrollment is commendable, but we urge more Kenyans to come forward and register to fully enjoy the benefits of affordable and accessible healthcare,” said Dr. Amoth.

He emphasized that UHC remains a top priority for the government in ensuring equitable healthcare for all citizens.

Ruai Family Hospital Managing Director Dr. Maxwell Okoth lauded the government’s push for quality standards, welcoming the ongoing mandatory inspection of health facilities for compliance with national healthcare regulations.

The SHA scheme, which is part of Kenya’s broader health reforms, aims to replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and ensure every citizen has access to quality medical services regardless of their economic status.
