Kenya will host the Africa Sitting Volleyball Championships from July 4–9, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, the Kenya Paravolley Federation (KPF) has confirmed.
Speaking during the national team’s training in Nairobi, KPF Chairperson Doris Atieno said at least six countries have confirmed participation, with four more expected.
The top two teams in both the men’s and women’s categories will qualify directly for the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Hangzhou, China, set for July 10–17.
“This ParaVolley Africa Zonal Championship is a golden opportunity for us to win at home and become Africa’s top team. We’re currently ranked third, and improving our continental standing brings us closer to our global goals,” Atieno said.
Officials from Rwanda—Mukeshimana Joy Happiness, Hererimana Herman, and Izerimana Raphael—will oversee the tournament.
Confirmed women’s teams include hosts Kenya, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Congo, with Uganda, South Africa, and Burundi expected to confirm soon.
In the men’s category, Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, and Libya are set to compete, with three more teams anticipated.
Kenya’s provisional squad of 30 players (men and women) has been training since April at Nyayo Indoor Gymnasium.
Each team will be trimmed to 14 players, in line with World ParaVolley regulations.
Following this event, the 2025 Sitting Volleyball World Cup will take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA from October 12–18, where top finishers can also earn spots at the 2026 World Championships.
With only two qualification slots available from the Africa Zonal event, KPF is working to ensure Kenya not only hosts a successful tournament but also qualifies for the global stage.
