The Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) has sent both the men’s and women’s national teams to Lilongwe, Malawi, for the 2025 Africa Netball Cup. The continental tournament is set for 8–14 December at the Griffins Sayenda Sports Complex.
KNF Secretary General Millicent Busolo reiterated that Kenya still has a pathway to qualify for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, emphasizing that strong results at continental events are essential — and the teams have no choice but to aim for victory.
Men’s head coach Joseph Makau returns to the national setup after a three-year break and will be assisted by Elvis Kuya. Makau has appointed Julius Karanja of Prisons Kenya as captain, with Hezron Mbaabu serving as vice captain.
Also named in the squad are: Christonvin Juma, John Ochuka, Victor Mbiithi, Stanley Benaiya, Joseph Njoroge, Oscar Lyambila, Chester Kioko, Victor Otieno, Isaac Lang’at, Francis Wachira, and Steve Madurai.
Two-time Mirxes Nations Singapore Netball Cup–winning coach Evelyn Jerono continues to lead the women’s team, assisted by veteran administrator and former player Peninah Nyakundi.
Experienced defender Parine Simiyu will captain the side, with shooter Hellen Sinoya as her deputy.
They are joined by defenders Theresa Othuon, Jackline Auro, and Lucy Akumu; midcourt players Irene Anyango, Elsa Ndong’, Mary Atieno, Nelly Muhammad, and Winfred Oyugi; and shooters Lydia Nyapere, Delilah Mukudi, and Dorine Anyango.
A total of nine nations are expected to compete in both the men’s and women’s categories. At last year’s edition, South Africa swept the titles — the Proteas defeating Uganda 65–50 in the women’s final and beating Eswatini 60–39 in the men’s final.
Kenya hopes to deliver strong performances to boost its qualification chances for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games — a target that SG Busolo remains determined to achieve.
