Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited (Kenya Re) has reinstated Dr. Hillary Wachinga as its Managing Director, ending a three-week suspension.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the company confirmed that the Board of Directors had lifted Wachinga’s suspension and restored him to office effective November 6, 2025.
“The Board has lifted the suspension of Dr. Hillary M. Wachinga and reinstated him as the Managing Director of the Corporation with effect from 6th November 2025,” the statement read in part.
The Board reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong corporate governance standards and safeguarding the interests of shareholders and other stakeholders.
It further assured that Kenya Re’s long-term strategic objectives remain on track and that business operations have continued without interruption.
Dr. Wachinga had been suspended for 21 days as the Board conducted a review into what it termed “internal matters.”
At the time, Kenya Re said the move was a precautionary measure aimed at enabling an impartial and comprehensive assessment of preliminary concerns.
The temporary suspension followed allegations raised against Dr. Wachinga, contained in a confidential complaint lodged with several oversight agencies, including the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA).
A seasoned risk management professional with over 17 years of experience across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, Dr. Wachinga holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi and multiple professional certifications.
Before his appointment as Managing Director, he led Kenya Re’s Risk and Compliance Division.
He currently serves on the Boards of Kenya Re and ZEP-RE, representing Kenya Re’s shareholding interests, and continues to oversee key strategic, risk, and operational initiatives for the Group.
