The Kenyan government has launched an investigation into allegations that a Russian man might have abused and exploited Kenyan women after disturbing videos went viral across the country over the weekend.
In its Monday announcement, the Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services, led by the Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, strongly condemned the alleged abuse of the women involved in the videos that went viral across the country.
The ministry said that the videos appeared to depict women who had been secretly filmed or photographed and had their images shared without their consent.
The Cabinet Secretary said that the government had taken the allegations seriously because the act of recording someone without their consent is a major violation of the personal dignity and privacy of the victims.
According to the Constitution of Kenya, the personal dignity of every person is inviolable.
In the past few days, social media has been flooded with videos of the foreigner approaching women while out in public and then convincing or pressuring the women into going somewhere with him.
However, it is not clear what the foreigner did after the women agreed to go somewhere with him.
Victims of the alleged abuse have also posted different accounts of the alleged abuse on social media.
The government has now confirmed that various government agencies had been directed to investigate the allegations.
The government also said that it had partnered with other foreign governments since the case involved more than one country.
“The Government of Kenya is coordinating a whole-of-government response,” the statement said.
