Kenya Power has cautioned job seekers against a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media and other online platforms claiming the utility company is hiring more than 220 employees.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the power distributor dismissed the advert as fraudulent and warned members of the public not to fall prey to scammers posing as Kenya Power recruiters.

The firm went further to state that all its recruitment adverts are released only via the careers page on its website and advised all applicants to authenticate any vacancies before applying for them.

“Fraudulent job offer: Watch out for fraudsters who pretend to be recruiters. Kenya Power only announces job vacancies through our Careers page,” the firm stated.

The company also cautioned job seekers from making payments to individuals who guarantee them jobs because its recruitment process involves no payment at all.

According to the fake job offer, the company was looking for over 220 employees in different departments such as maintenance technicians, electrical technicians, financial accountants, customer care officers, store managers, data entry clerks, and cleaners.

Further instructions were provided on how to forward the documents to an email that does not belong to any official channel of communication used by Kenya Power.

It was advised that the citizens should be vigilant enough and not disclose their personal details to any individual, and report any fraudulent recruitment notices to the respective authorities.

This notice follows the increase in employment scams whereby job seekers in Kenya have been defrauded using the names of government departments, state corporations, and other big companies.

Kenya Power noted that it has not announced any large-scale recruitment exercise. The only opportunities currently listed on its website are industrial attachment placements for the May–July and September–November intake periods.

The latest advisory adds to a growing list of warnings from state corporations, many of which have recently raised concern over fake job advertisements exploiting the high demand for employment opportunities in the country.
