Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Mutahi Kagwe on Monday said that agricultural goods entering China will not be taxed. the Cs said this after holding an exclusive meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, Guo Haiyan.
Kagwe called the move a great step noting that it will help to promote trade businesses from the two Countries.
He said the signed agreement will be effective starting May 1, 2026.
The removal of tariffs means everyday Kenyan products—like tea, coffee, avocados, macadamia nuts, flowers, and fresh fruits and vegetables—can now reach China’s huge market of over 1.4 billion consumers without extra costs.
CS Kagwe urged local farmers and exporters to take advantage of this opportunity by increasing production and focusing on value-added goods instead of just raw products.
