Youth across the country will finally get a chance to choose their leaders after more than 10 years, following a new announcement by Sports and Youth Affairs CS Salim Mvurya.
According to the notice, the process will start at the ward level on July 5. After that, it will move to constituencies on July 16, before ending with the national elections on July 27.
The elections will be done in stages, starting from the ground going up.
At the same time, the CS has formed a committee that will be in charge of the whole process.
The team will be led by George Marcel Osaro and includes several other members. Their role will be to make sure the elections are organised well, handle any complaints, and keep the process on track.
They will also oversee how technology will be used, including voter registration and how results will be shared.
The elections will follow the law that guides the National Youth Council.
Young people have now been asked to prepare and take part once the process begins.
This was long overdue. The previous elections took place in 2012, after which issues have arisen regarding improper youth representation.
Now, as the new plan has finally come forth, the question remains if the process will proceed without any hassle and enable the youth to elect their representatives again.
