Kenya’s Music Festivals if well nurtured can be a platform to promote young talent and creative arts as a key component of the nation’s economic transformation President William Ruto has said.

This year’s festival, themed “Talent Development for Growth of the Creative Economy,” aligns with the government’s broader agenda to bolster the creative sector as a driver of economic growth.

Ruto emphasized the need for stronger partnerships with the private sector to ensure the sustainability of the festival, urging organizers to explore alternative income sources.

He noted that the creative arts—encompassing music, dance, and spoken word—are not only vital to national pride but also play a significant role in job creation and economic contribution.

The President also outlined the government’s efforts to support the creative industries, including strengthening copyright laws to protect artists’ intellectual property and ensuring they receive fair compensation for their work.

"My government has made several initiatives to support these sectors, including strengthening copyright laws to protect artists' intellectual property and ensuring they receive fair compensation for their work."

These initiatives aim to position Kenya as a cultural and music tourism hub, utilizing county and national platforms to showcase the country’s rich artistic heritage.

This year’s festival saw over 130,000 participants from various educational levels, including special needs education, underscoring the event’s inclusivity.

The introduction of new categories, such as the “Pop Talent Show,” directly links participants to the performing arts industry by allowing students to compose and produce their own music using modern technology.

This initiative is designed to prepare students for careers as composers, performers, and recording artists in Kenya’s growing music industry.

"The festival also plays a critical role in preserving cultural heritage through the performance of traditional dances," said Ruto.

He stressed the importance of promoting and documenting these performances to ensure they are passed down to future generations.

The President commended the dedication of teachers, trainers, and students, noting that the educational and entertainment value of the festival’s performances reflects the hard work and creativity of all involved.
