Kenyan gospel dancehall artist Hopekid is mourning the loss of his father. The musician shared a touching tribute online, expressing grief on his Instagram stories, ”Dear dad, till we meet again, rest well12/21”

According to Hopekid, his musical foundation was formed early at home, where music from reggae legends such as Coco T and Burning Spear was consistently played at home. Those sounds, filled with rhythm, message, and soul, left a lasting impression on him and quietly shaped his ear for music long before he stepped into the studio.

As Hopekid grew older, he began to blend those early reggae inspirations with R&B elements, eventually crafting what he now describes as a “new school dancehall” style. This fusion would later become his signature sound, setting him apart in Kenya’s gospel music scene.

Known for uplifting songs such as “I’m Blessed,” a collaboration with Mr. Seed, Hopekid has remained consistent in using dancehall as a vehicle for gospel messages. His career has focused on faith, positivity, and resilience, values that many fans say are reflected not only in his music but also in his personal story.
