President William Ruto has called on world leaders to safeguard the planet’s heritage and ensure future generations inherit a healthy, inclusive, and regenerative environment.
Speaking during the 2025 Wildebeest Migration Live Address at Pristine Mara Bay in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Narok County, the President underscored the importance of global partnerships in conservation efforts.
“It gives me immense pleasure to welcome the world to witness this great miracle of life unfold,” President Ruto said, as millions tuned in to watch the iconic migration, recognized globally as the greatest land migration on earth.
The Head of State lauded the collaboration between Kenya and China, describing the joint effort as a powerful testament to trust, understanding, and shared responsibility in heritage preservation.
“Today’s historic broadcast is a powerful reminder that what is possible when vision meets partnership is phenomenal,” he stated, highlighting the role of the China Media Group (CMG) in bringing the spectacle to millions worldwide.
Ruto noted that the live broadcast was more than just a special event, terming it “a bridge between nations” and reaffirming Kenya’s friendship with China.
“This remarkable phenomenon is also living proof of Kenya’s towering leadership in conservation,” he added.
The President emphasized that Kenya’s innovative policies to restore biodiversity have transformed the Maasai Mara into a wildlife haven and a global symbol of sustainability.
Over 2.4 million international visitors toured Kenya in the past year, marking a 15% rise in global confidence in the country as a leading tourism destination.
President Ruto also commended the Maasai community for their culture, hospitality, and guardianship, which he said make the Mara an unforgettable landscape.
The annual Wildebeest migration sees more than two million wildebeests cross from Tanzania’s Serengeti into Kenya’s Maasai Mara in search of water and pasture, earning the reserve a spot among the world’s top natural wonders.
Also present at the event were Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, and other dignitaries.
