Kenya and China have convened a high-level investment forum in Beijing aimed at strengthening bilateral investment cooperation and expanding opportunities for private sector financing across key economic sectors.

The China-Kenya High-Level Investment Forum brought together approximately 100 companies from the public and private sectors to explore investment opportunities and deepen commercial ties between the two countries.

The meeting was organised by the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank), the Kenyan Embassy in Beijing and the Kenya Investment Authority (InvestKenya).

The Kenyan delegation was led by Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui, alongside Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, Principal Secretary for Public Investment and Asset Management Cyrell Odede, InvestKenya Chief Executive Officer John Mwendwa and Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) Chief Executive Officer Ken Chelule.

China Exim Bank has been a major financier of infrastructure development in Kenya, with investments spanning road construction, port development and other construction projects.

However, the forum comes as the bank signals a shift towards financing private sector investments in additional economic sectors, potentially opening new avenues for businesses seeking capital to expand their operations.

The engagement provides a platform for Kenyan and Chinese companies to explore partnerships, identify investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation beyond traditional infrastructure financing.

For Kenya, attracting private sector investment remains an important component of efforts to expand productive capacity, create employment and support economic growth. Deeper cooperation with Chinese investors could provide businesses with access to financing, technology and international markets.

The forum also underscores the role of InvestKenya and other government agencies in positioning the country as an investment destination and facilitating partnerships between domestic enterprises and international investors.

Further details on specific investment commitments, sectors targeted for new financing and agreements reached at the meeting were not provided in the announcement.
