The government, through the Ministry of Tourism, has been called upon to support the upcoming Miss Tourism show that will take place in Kenya, as the government speeds up plans to win the hosting rights of the Miss Tourism Africa 2026 contest.
The call comes after the Kenyan Miss Tourism Board, led by its current chairlady Esther Wangeci, was honored by the African Mrs. Tourism President at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
This visit is part of the preparations for the next Miss. Africa Tourism contest and is also seen as a major boost for the region on tourism promotion.
After welcoming the president from the continental body, Wangeci said, “Today’s event marks a great milestone for the Republic of Kenya since beauty pageants have become an important platform through which our countries promote their natural tourist attractions and cultural heritage.” She said through Miss Tourism, Kenya has received recognition and acclamations from all across the African continent.
Wangeci appealed to the Kenya Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism to promote local beauty contests because they have a significant role in promoting cultural diversity, thus making Kenya one of the most preferred destinations for tourists in Africa.
She also appealed to stakeholders in the cabinet to support the pageants, explaining that the event is important because it gives Kenyan women the chance to display their talents, represent Africa internationally, as well as promote cross-cultural exchanges across the borders.
According to the organisers, more government support will boost the country’s prospects to successfully hold the prestigious Miss Tourism Africa 2026 competition, yet will serve to improve the tourism brand in the country’s stature internationally.
