Kenya has taken a significant step toward securing sustainable vaccine access through enhanced collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, and the National Treasury.

During a high-level meeting, Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga joined forces with National Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo and Gavi representatives to refine the country’s vaccine financing framework. The talks centered on strengthening coordination between Gavi’s support and Kenya’s counterpart contributions to ensure consistent funding for the national immunization programme.

“We are aligning vaccine financing with a seamless and efficient supply chain to guarantee the continuous availability of vaccines, especially for children under five,” said Dr. Oluga.

The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health by making vaccines equitably and reliably accessible across all counties. The enhanced collaboration also aligns with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) priorities, which place preventive healthcare—particularly immunization—at the forefront of public health strategy.

Stakeholders emphasized the importance of predictability in vaccine supply, citing the need for robust planning and resource allocation mechanisms to avoid disruptions in immunization services.

With support from Gavi and strategic alignment with the National Treasury, Kenya aims to scale up routine immunization and introduce newer vaccines more efficiently, ensuring no child is left behind.
