The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has ranked the Kenya’s national men’s team position 16 out of 54 teams in Africa with 98.7 points.
The new rankings show the national men’s team has climbed from position 19, beating Libya, Morocco and Congo.
South Sudan holds the top spot on the continent with 481 points. They are followed by Egypt and Angola.
Fiba ranked Nigeria, whose women’s team made history by becoming the first Olympic team from Africa to reach the quarterfinals in the Olympics, sixth position.
Cape Verde, Senegal, Cameroon and Guinea follows Nigeria in this order.
In the continent women category, Nigeria tops with 631.0 points, followed by Mali (326.7 points), and Senegal in third (295.4 points).
Mozambique, Cameroon, and Egypt ranked fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Kenya’s women’s team remains position 11 with 108.5 points, having been outshined by Uganda which his ninth position and Rwanda closing the top ten list.
On global arena, both the US men and women teams hold the top positions.
Fiba which governs the sport of basketball worldwide highlighted France, Nigeria and Germany as the major climbers in women category.
France jumped four places to third position. China, Spain, Belgium and Canada fall behind in his order.
