The Kenya Army Corps of Transport (KACT), in partnership with Greens of Africa Foundation, the University of Nairobi, and Diamond Trust Bank, spearheaded a large-scale tree planting exercise at the University of Nairobi’s Upper Kabete Campus, reinforcing national efforts toward environmental conservation.
Led by Corps Commander Colonel Timothy Kwaram, KACT personnel planted more than 15,000 assorted tree seedlings across the campus grounds in a vigorous display of unity and purpose.
The event marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s broader goal of restoring forest cover and addressing climate change.
Speaking at the event, Col Kwaram underscored the initiative’s strategic value beyond environmental concerns. “This is a noble intervention which is more than an environmental act; it is a patriotic duty to safeguard our country’s natural heritage for future generations,” he said.
Leaders from the partnering institutions echoed this sentiment, praising the tree planting as a symbol of inter-institutional collaboration and collective responsibility in securing Kenya’s environmental future.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Defence’s national tree planting campaign, which designates the fourth Wednesday of every month to the activity.
This monthly commitment reinforces the Ministry’s pledge to contribute to the country’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
The event not only highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship but also served as a model for future public-private partnerships in the fight against climate change.
