A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier has been arrested following the sudden death of his girlfriend at a lodge in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

Police suspect the woman, aged 24, may have died from heart-related complications, with an autopsy scheduled at Shalom Mortuary to confirm the cause of death.

According to Kitengela Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Joseph Indege, the soldier is currently assisting police with investigations into the incident, which occurred on Friday night.

Authorities said the soldier had booked a room at an apartment in Kitengela where he was spending time with his girlfriend when she developed breathing difficulties and lost consciousness at around 11 pm.

The soldier reportedly raised the alarm, prompting the apartment’s caretaker to respond. Witnesses said they sought help from a tenant who provided a vehicle to rush the woman to St. Paul’s Hospital Kitengela, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators believe the woman may have died at the lodge before being taken to the hospital.

Police added that after being advised by nurses to report the incident, the soldier fled the hospital premises by jumping over the gate. He later surrendered to the Military Police at Kahawa Garrison, where he was detained before being handed over to Kitengela DCI officers on Saturday afternoon.

Preliminary investigations revealed no visible injuries on the woman’s body.

Police noted that similar cases are often linked to sudden heart-related complications, pending confirmation through a post-mortem examination.
