Kenya’s media fraternity is mourning the death of veteran presenter at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), Edmond Salasia, popularly known as Edu who passed away following the collapse of his lungs.
The news of his death was shared by journalist Stephen Mukangai, who confirmed the loss of his fellow colleague in a Facebook post, grieving his sudden loss.
“Edmond, this is heartbreaking. Your voice, your presence and memories you created with us will forever remain in our hearts. Sometimes words are simply not enough to express the pain of losing a colleague and a brother,” Mukangai wrote.
Edu’s journey in broadcasting began during the golden age of Kenyan radio when Radio Taifa was the nation’s primary source of news, entertainment and community dialogue. His deep commanding voice and warm delivery made him instantly recognizable.
He worked as both a presenter and content creator ensuring that programs met the needs of everyday Kenyans.
He worked alongside veteran Charles Omuga Kabisae at Kisumu station, where he presented in the vernacular Dholuo before transitioning to KBC Kiswahili service Radio Taifa in 1990.
At Radio Taifa, he was known for the phrase “bingwa wa kipaza sauti” which captured the esteem of KBC listeners.
