Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Joho has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to building a safe, secure and sustainable maritime sector during a government address in London.
Speaking at a high-level event hosted by the International Maritime Organization, Joho highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance maritime safety, protect the environment and promote sustainable practices along the coast and in Kenyan waters.
He also called on member states to support Kenya’s bid for reelection to the IMO Council under Category C.
The elections are scheduled for Friday, and Joho said Kenya’s continued presence on the council will allow the country to play a more active role in shaping international maritime policies and standards.
After the address, Joho held bilateral talks with Morocco’s Minister of Transport. The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including improving maritime safety, boosting capacity building and sharing technology to strengthen maritime operations.
Joho was accompanied by Kenya’s High Commissioner to London, Ambassador Catherine Kirumba, and the Director General of the Kenya Maritime Authority, CPA Omae Nyarandi.
“Our discussions show that Kenya is a committed and proactive partner in international maritime affairs. By working together, we can build a resilient and thriving maritime sector that benefits everyone,” Joho said.
