Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, has officially launched the State Department for Blue Economy and Fisheries Aquaculture Research and Training Centre in Mutonga, Tharaka Nithi County.
The centre is expected to benefit over 5,000 fish farmers in the region by offering training and providing high-quality fish seed.
In addition, Joho opened a new fresh fish market in Chuka town, which includes cold storage facilities, and distributed fish feeds worth Sh34.6 million to local farmers as part of efforts to boost aquaculture in the country.
During his visit, the CS also met with Governor Muthomi Njuki and handed over a vehicle to the Regional Mining Office to support mining services and operations in the county.
Joho was joined by Principal Secretaries Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy and Fisheries) and Elijah Mwangi (Mining), Deputy Governor Wilson Nderebia Nyaga, Woman Rep Susan Ngugi, MPs George Gitonga, Kareke Mbiuki, and County Commissioner David Gitonga.
