Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has questioned the rationale of some Kenyans who are opposing Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission’s (AUC) chairmanship.
Some Kenyans on social media have been de-campaigning Raila and endorsing his competitors for the plum seat, majorly Mahamoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti.
Speaking to NTV, Mudavadi wondered if the said netizens are driven by malice, jealousy or they are just being petty.
"Why would someone not wish for a Kenyan to succeed in a continental role that we have not secured in decades? Is it jealousy? Is it somebody being petty or is it malice? These are the questions that we ask ourselves," Musavadi said.The Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary noted that for the first time in history, Kenya has the greatest opportunity to clinch the AUC seat, regretting that the actions of Kenyans on social media might hurt the chance.
"Kenya for the first time, has the greatest opportunity, to chair the African Union Commission, which we have never ever chaired. Why would a Kenyan be bitter, that a fellow Kenyan is going to have opportunity of that nature? So that you spend time, trying to send social media messages to various governments in the continent, telling them not to vote for the Kenyan candidate?" Mudavadi posed.Mudavadi reminded Kenyans that national interests should always supersede political disagreements.
