Former Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Irungu Nyakera has dismissed rumors of fallout with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Farmers Party of Kenya following his replacement by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Speaking during interview, Nyakera reaffirmed his support for Waititu, saying the party is in capable hands.
He explained that his resignation as party leader was in compliance with Article 77(2) of the Kenyan Constitution, which prohibits public officers from holding party positions.
“Article 77(2) of the Kenyan Constitution states: ‘Any appointed State officer shall not hold office in a political party.’ Since I serve as the chairman of the Kenya International Conference Centre (KICC), I had to step down and pave the way for Waititu to take over as party leader, while I continue as a member,” Nyakera explained.
Nyakera also addressed allegations that he is planning to form a new political party ahead of the 2027 elections, vehemently denying any such intentions.
The reshuffle included Waititu taking over as party leader and Brian Kigochi being replaced by John Wambugu in the policy and strategy department.
Nicholas Ikui remains the Deputy Party Leader for Resource Mobilization, while Thomas Omboga continues as National Chairperson.
