The IEBC has spoken out to clear the air on the allegations of a deal between the IEBC and the Registration Bureau, as well as allegations of rigging of the election results.
The IEBC has said that there are no plans of tampering with the voter register ahead of the 2027 General Election. In its Monday announcement, the IEBC said that the collaboration between the government agencies, such as the National Registration Bureau, is just a routine process aimed at keeping the voter register clean.
The IEBC has faced allegations of rigging the election results after the Democratic Party party leader, Justin Muturi, told the Zimmerman, Roysambu gathering that the IEBC is working hand-in-hand with the state agencies to manipulate the voter register.
The chief executive officer, Erastus Ethekon, said that the allegations are misleading and create fear where there should be none.
It stated that the collaboration between the government agencies such as the Civil Registration Services and the Directorate of Immigration Services is a statutory duty aimed at verifying the ID cards and the passports of the voters.
It said that the voter register is entirely under its control, with the personal information of the voters protected by the Constitution, the Elections Act, and the Data Protection Act.
The IEBC also warned the political leaders of making baseless accusations that can create fear among the voters.
For the young generation of Kenyans preparing for the 2027 election, the IEBC has reaffirmed its main goal of registering every eligible voter while ensuring that every vote counts.
