Police have arrested Zachariah Wanjohi in connection with the murder of his wife, 23-year-old Hannah Waithera, a Nakuru-based M-Pesa agent whose decomposing body was found a week after she went missing.
Waithera vanished last Wednesday after leaving her shop in Nakuru’s CBD to deposit over Ksh.250,000 at a local bank. She never returned, prompting her family to report the matter to Nakuru Central Police Station.
Her body was discovered days later in a plantation at Technology Farm, Nakuru West, and identified on Wednesday. Her phone had last been traced to the Kijabe area on the day of her disappearance.
Before his arrest, Wanjohi claimed he had called his wife without success and began a search with help from a police officer friend.
Following Waithera’s disappearance, her family accused police of harassment, claiming officers violently raided their home, seized their phones, and threatened them during a search.
“They pulled a gun on us and hit someone, even though we had just left the station after giving our statements,” said Mary Njeri, Waithera’s mother.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they piece together the events leading to Waithera’s death.
