President William Ruto has hailed Kenyans as the true drivers of the nation’s progress, thanking them for paying taxes and fulfilling their civic duties despite tough economic times.
Speaking during his national address, the President said the resilience and sacrifice of ordinary citizens continue to give life to Kenya’s constitutional ideals of equity, social justice and sustainable development.
“I extend heartfelt thanks to the hard-working Kenyans who have diligently fulfilled their civic duty,” Ruto said. “You have shouldered the weight of nation-building, and future generations will honour you as the generation that helped change the trajectory of our Republic.”
The President’s message came as senior government officials outlined an ambitious plan to upgrade Kenya’s transport and logistics infrastructure in a bid to strengthen the country’s economic competitiveness.
Jacktone Lawi noted that Kenya, as the region’s economic and diplomatic hub — hosting the United Nations’ largest office in the Global South and standing as the sixth-largest economy in Africa — must maintain world-class highways, airports, seaports and digital corridors.
“Efficient transport and logistics are the backbone of our competitiveness,” he said, stressing the need for modern infrastructure to match the country’s strategic position.
As part of this push, the Ministry of Roads and Transport has mapped out a bold expansion plan that includes the construction and improvement of 2,500 kilometres of highways and 28,000 kilometres of roads over the next decade.
The programme is expected to support trade, ease movement across counties, open up rural areas and help Kenya consolidate its role as a continental gateway for business, diplomacy and innovation.
President Ruto reiterated that the transformation of Kenya’s infrastructure is tied directly to the sacrifices made by taxpayers, underscoring that every contribution counts toward building a fairer, more prosperous nation.
