Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has criticised Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga for what he describes as political inconsistencies in the Mt. Kenya region.

Wamumbi accused Kahiga, a former teacher, of playing both sides by supporting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly while secretly courting President William Ruto, Gachagua’s political rival.

The first-time legislator argued that Kahiga appears to align with Gachagua during the day but seeks Ruto’s support behind the scenes.

“Mwalimu, be consistent. Stop sitting on both sides like a hyena, or you will end up getting torn apart,” Wamumbi told the Governor.

He also expressed disbelief at Kahiga’s criticism of those who oppose Gachagua, particularly targeting remarks made about carrying a Bible.

“How can you attack someone for carrying a Bible, and you’re saying that in church? What’s wrong with you people?” Wamumbi asked.

Kahiga, who is serving his final term as governor, has been positioning himself as a spokesperson for Gachagua.

He has even threatened MPs in the region who supported Gachagua’s impeachment and other leaders opposing the former DP.

On Sunday, Kahiga warned that anyone in the region who votes against Gachagua, who was recently impeached, would be labeled a traitor.

Kahiga also warned that anyone from the region appointed to a Cabinet Secretary position should not set up their foot in Nyeri.
