As part of its revival of the anti, counterfeit alcoholic and drug traffickings campaigns, the government is closing unguarded border points in major water bodies through sealing as one of the measures taken.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday said the government would massively increase surveillance on Lake Victoria and Lake Turkana, which he named as the biggest security risks due to the vast and hardly, police waters.

Murkomen, who was speaking in Kisumu during an inspection of the units of the Coast Guard Service stationed on Lake Victoria, said the step is consistent with President William Rutos New Year directive to strengthen the fight against illicit brews, drugs, and cross, border crime.

One of the major areas we are focusing on is personnel increase through recruitment and training, as well as better equipping our teams already operating on these lakes, Murkomen said.

The Interior CS acknowledged that the intensification of maritime surveillance, intelligence sharing, and inter, agency collaboration would go a long way in cutting off supply routes used by the criminal networks to traffic counterfeit alcohol and drugs into the country.
